Stockholm: Live Guided Archipelago Cruise

About This Experience

This is the two-hour version of the archipelago trip: one fixed length, one boat, and a route that starts in the middle of the city rather than out at Strandvägen. You board in front of the Royal Palace on Gamla Stan, which makes it the easiest archipelago cruise to reach on foot if you are staying in the old town.

The boat leaves the harbour past Fotografiska, runs out through the Djurgården canal and on to Fjäderholmarna and Stora Höggarn - the first proper islands of the inner archipelago. It is not the deep archipelago; two hours does not reach it. What it does give you is the transition, the point where the city stops and the water starts winning, which is the part most visitors actually came to see.

A live English-speaking guide talks throughout rather than an audio track, and there is a bar on board where you can buy a traditional fika, drinks and snacks. Outside food and drink are not allowed. The operator asks you to check in fifteen minutes before departure at the Red Sightseeing ticket booth by the Gustav III statue - not on the boat itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does this archipelago cruise leave from?

From the quay directly in front of the Royal Palace on Gamla Stan, by the Gustav III statue. Look for the Red Sightseeing ticket booth with a Tours & Tickets sign and check in there at least fifteen minutes before departure.

How far into the archipelago does a 2-hour cruise get?

As far as the inner archipelago - Fjäderholmarna, Tegelön and Stora Höggarn. Two hours is an introduction to the island landscape rather than a trip to the outer skerries; for that you want the 2.5 or 3-hour sailings on the longer archipelago cruise.

Can I bring my own food and drink?

No. Outside food and drink are not permitted on board. There is a bar selling drinks, snacks and a traditional Swedish fika, all of which are paid for separately from the ticket.

Are dogs allowed on the cruise?

Not indoors. Stockholm hygiene regulations mean dogs cannot be brought into the indoor areas of the boat, which limits how practical it is outside good weather.

Do children need a ticket?

Children aged 0 to 6 travel free when accompanied by a paying adult. Older children need their own ticket.
